Why is this important?

Before Melatonin is released, it is biosynthesised through the conversion of L-Tryptophan to 5-Hydroxytryptophan (5-HTP) and then finally, 5-HTP into Serotonin, before Serotonin then produces melatonin.

Which is where L-Tryptophan as a supplement comes in!

Supplementing with L-Tryptophan prior to bed may help induce sleep faster due to the upregulation of melatonin production or similarly it may also increase the quality of sleep as well.

Finally, due to its action on Serotonin, L-Tryptophan may also help support a positive mood and may even reduce potential food cravings related to emotional distress.

Most often used by athletes as a sleep aid, taken 30-60 minutes before retiring.

May also be suitable for use during the day, as a mild anti-anxiety aid, and (when taken before meals) as an appetite suppressing agent.
