FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is the importance of Glucosamine Sulfate and Chondroitin Sulfate in joint health?
Glucosamine Sulfate and Chondroitin Sulfate are natural compounds the body uses to help rebuild and replace cartilage found in every joint, destroyed by normal wear and tear or as a result of aging. Cartilage, a natural connective substance that cushions joints and acts as a shock absorber between the bones that make up the joint, is worn away through use or injury. However, as we age, or as the result of injury of the cartilage or joint tissue, our ability to provide these natural substances declines, so supplementation may become an important option. Chondroitin Sulfate acts as a ‘fluid magnet’, drawing fluids and nutrients into the cartilage, enabling it to grow and be replaced. It works in conjunction with Glucosamine Sulfate to help rebuild cartilage. Clinical studies show that 1500mg Glucosamine Sulfate taken daily can help repair joint damage and improve joint mobility and lubrication.1
Why use Glucosamine Sulfate as opposed to Glucosamine Hydrochloride?
In a large randomised clinical study2 of over 300 people with knee joint pain, Glucosamine Sulfate gave significantly effective pain control. Only the Sulfate form of Glucosamine has been able to demonstrate this. The Sulfur content of Glucosamine Complex contributes to the compound’s high affinity for articular cartilage found in the joint and is one reason for the superior results seen with the Sulfate complex.
What is Dimethyl Sulfone and MSM?
Dimethyl Sulfone is an organic bioavailable source of sulfur, an essential element found in nerves, muscles, skin and hair and is needed every day for healthy joints. Sulfur is a key mineral to support the structure of connective tissues, including cartilage, bone, tendons and ligaments. Levels of sulfur in the body decline with age, resulting in symptoms of fatigue, tissue and organ malfunction and an increased susceptibility to disease.
Why is MSM important for osteoarthritis?
Arthritic cartilage contains only about one third of the sulfur content of healthy cartilage. MSM® may be useful in restoring sulfur levels in damaged cartilage, thereby supporting healthy joint function. Sulfur is needed for the formation of connective tissues, including cartilage, tendons and ligaments. MSM has shown remarkable benefits in improving joint mobility through its effects on maintaining the synovial fluid that provides joint lubrication. Itallows the cartilage covering the ends of bones to glide smoothly over each other.
How does MSM ease the pain and inflammation associated with joints?
MSM has antioxidant activity that reduces inflammation, provides substantial relief from the symptoms of painful joints, aids joint lubrication and improves blood circulation.
How long before the benefits of Nutra-Life MSM Glucosamine Chondroitin Joint Food powder are experienced?
This will depend upon the extent of cartilage loss or degeneration. Cartilage repair can be a slow process, so allow 2-12 weeks for real benefits.
How long do I need to keep taking this product?
When improvement is noted, the dose may be reduced. However, cartilage must be constantly replaced and, if insufficient Glucosamine or Chondroitin are available to the joints, the symptoms may return, requiring long-term supplementation.
What is the importance of antioxidants in this formula?
The antioxidant joint co-factors of Zinc, Selenium and Manganese help to protect joints against free radical damage, and Boron and Copper are involved in connective tissue formation and healthy bone metabolism.
I am allergic to sulfur drugs, will Nutra-Life MSM Glucosamine Chondroitin Joint Food powder cause any reactions?
Many individuals with allergies to sulfur containing medications or to sulfites, which are additives in food, do not experience problems taking MSM, Glucosamine Sulfate or Chondroitin Sulfate.
